The BIOPAQ® IC (Internal Circulation) is a cost-effective anaerobic (=without air) effluent treatment system for industrial wastewater, which enables you to comply with effluent discharge limits and produce biogas at the same time.
The BIOPAQ® IC reactor was developed by Paques, in cooperation with universities, research institutes and customers. Fundamental and applied research into biological, physical and mechanical aspects of the system resulted in a wide range of IC’s, which enables Paques to provide every customer with a tailor made wastewater treatment system that meets all the client’s requirements.
The BIOPAQ® IC process explained
Industrial waste water enters the reactor and is mixed with granular anaerobic biomass in the distribution system. Organic compounds are converted into methane (biogas). Biogas is collected in the lower phase separator generating a “gas-lift.” Together with biogas, liquid flows upwards in the riser. Biogas leaves the reactor in the liquid/gas separator. Water returns through the downer into the distribution system, hence the name: Internal Circulation. Effluent is polished in the second, upper compartment. Biogas from the second compartment is collected in the upper phase separator. Treated effluent exits the reactor, and biogas is collected from the reactor.
