. Scientists tested the Internal Circulation Xperience wastewater treatment system on high-strength paper mill wastewater in Vietnam. This highly controlled experiment showed that this system can help solve the biggest challenge in paper and pulp wastewater treatment – meet growing demands while minimizing environmental impact – in the most cost-effective way.

190+ full-scale references in all major industries confirm that the BIOPAQ® ICX has already been accepted by the market. After all, it offers excellent biomass retention / COD removal and works efficiently at a high volumetric loading rate like the extensively researched and broadly applied BIOPAQ® IC system. Which actually increases efficiency and effective volume up to 25% compared to UASB systems 2 .
But the difference with BIOPAQ® IC is that the BIOPAQ® ICX design is much more compact. The BIOPAQ® ICX anaerobic bioreactor fits existing systems of any supplier, which simplifies construction, shortens the startup time, and decreases costs compared with BIOPAQ® IC 3 . Now also independently proven
Up till now, there was no reproducible scientific study with replicable results that confirms our commercial claims. But now, you don’t have to take our word for it anymore. We stumbled upon the publication of an independent scientific study by Tuan Minh Truong Dang - employed by the Research Institute of Environmental Toxin and Emerging Contaminants - and Ha Manh Bui - employed by the Faculty of Environment of Saigon University. They delivered scientific proof that BIOPAQ® ICX is a stable, reliable system and excels in treating high-strength paper mill wastewater.

Anaerobic bioreactor BIOPAQ® ICX effectively treats complex industrial wastewaters, such as high-strength paper mill wastewater. In this case study, sCOD >11,800 mg/L was tested and effectively treated.
BIOPAQ® ICX is stable and works efficiently up to VLR 26.8 kg/m3/day, achieving process efficiency exceeding 81%. This Volumetric Loading Rate was set as maximum threshold for this facility based on an earlier study 4 .

Confirmed superiority
Comparing installations for pulp and paper wastewater treatment, they found that BIOPAQ® ICX is suited for a bigger VLR range than IC, EGSB & UASB technologies - with a better sCOD removal efficiency as well: 70-89%.

What’s so special about the design
BIOPAQ® ICX combines the excellent properties of the BIOPAQ® IC reactor with a high flexibility with regard to tank design. The unique 2-stage biomass retention system of the BIOPAQ® ICX ensures excellent biomass retention, enabling high volumetric loading rates.
